MGMT

I was fucking upset when finding out that MGMT played the Motorolas festival and i didnt go! i didnt even know the band at the time, but now that i have knowledge of it, i love it.

This american duo comes with this psychedelic pop that makes you want to fly, land back, dance a little and fly again, around the summer and next to the 60s sun! They play good feeling songs perfect for day light indie music festivals, and i had a chance to be there, i didnt know!

I didnt know them before but i met them with this Oracular Spectacular album that goes from track one to last nonstop, cant stop listening to them, they get me high, they give me a chance to dance, to smile, to enjoy life, yeah they make you forget that life sucks.

Dirty Pretty Things

This band was an example of how one, as a rockstar should make a come back album... The Libertines dismembered around late 04, Pete kept on going with the Babyshambles and nobody knew much about how Carlos was going, some heard rumors of his new band, some said he was done, Pete had already started playing shows and came up with an album with the Shambles, which put pressure on the press over Barat. Then we hear he suddenly was back, with a new band called Dirty Pretty Things and this album From Waterloo to Anywhere, that took everybody by surprise.

So Carl was indeed doing his thing, and we could recognize he followed his roots and his style. Great reviews, great shows, great work, while Pete was trying to handle the Shambles, drug addiction, upset fans, debts and a Kate Moss on cocaine, Carl won a place on the radio and iPods all over the world.

Dirty Pretty Things decided to split off around late 08, which was weird and sad, but gave fans a hope thinking Carl would rejoin Pete Dohertys guitar around late 09, when Petes done with his new Solo project.

With two clean cut albums, Dirty Pretty Things was a band of live shows, i think it was probably the band that ive seen live in most occasions, and none of the times i was laid down. Carls a great equality english sailor, a handsome gentleman, talented, with sense of humor and style.

I love the next track, its very... Pirateish!

The Kooks

I wanted to be a cook back then... i even studied in France, unfortunately life can be quite tough on us and well.. i didnt finish my studies. Well this guys are the Kooks, which means fool, crazy or just that somethings not very good up there, and that doesnt have anything to do with a cook haha. They go under the British flag as the Queen and they play what we nowadays call Indie music, but to me they sound much more like pop rock... and i like them!

I heard they came to Mexico to the Motorolas Festival and they played it beautifully, its a shame i didnt go because i just found this band MGMT (which i will post about soon) they rock and they played there too.

The Kooks are just young english kids rocking out their instruments, their music speaks about what usually young people talk and love, they could get to be corny so i guess some people could say this is a band for girls, i say this is a band for people who likes good catchy choruses and pretty guitar riffs. They look cool and you might as well call them the Hooks, for those great hooks that catch you singing.

Flint

When i see bands with girls on board killing their instrument and looking sexy as fuck, i always end up saying: why? Why didnt you just decided to take a guitar or a bass or even a piano or something and play around with it during your infancy? and i always think: oh i wanna be like her! But no, im not a musician, im not that cool.

So i was traveling around youtube as i always do and found... Flint! Yeah remember the guy from Prodigy? yeah, thats him, hes back! well at least he was. Keith Flint decided to start this punk rock band as a side project from Prodigy not long ago, the problem was that he didnt endure by himself.. he got two drummers (which was a very nice idea for aesthetics but not very functional), a guitar killer and a cool punk rocker girl with bass lines that hit the spot first punch!

The band recorded an album so ive heard, and it never came out, he played a couple of shows and then disappeared, he went back with Prodigy for good, and they will release a new album so soon.. that i think its already out.

Keith Flints a great voice, very particular and acid, i would relate him with a cobra snake and i will confess that i like him a lot, hes this post apocalyptic punk rocker with a wild attitude, we love bad guys.

He didnt go to far but he came up with this nice track and video.

Editors

The Editors came back to my mind today, great British indie rock band that transmits me a new modern feeling. I think that some modern bands want to sound vintage, usually new indie bands try to use vintage amps, vintage guitars, vintage styles, blah blah, but this guys dont care about all that vintage look, they are indie (whats indie anyway? i guess this is the first time i use this therm around here), they look indie, but i feel they just make their music by just following their feelings. And they use incredibly cool instruments.

I remember listening to them over my PS2 on the TV loud so i could listen from my room when getting ready to go out, and my roommate coming in saying "whats that band youre playing? that guitar riffs a winner!" me then, coming back at her "the name of the tracks Racing Rats, thats the Editors, and yeah, they win!".

The Racing Rats - Editors live at Lowlands 08

Yeah.. he plays an intro song, i dont know what was that but i liked it!

The Arctic Monkeys

This is the song i was talking about.. 505. As i mentioned in the past post, i do not like the Monkeys but they did this song with Miles Kane from the Rascals and i think its brilliant. Alex Turners a fantastic musician but his work with the Monkeys feels too puppy for me. I dont like their rhythm section and well thats an important one, i feel it goes to a different direction, its just not my style, but i save the voice, i like Alex Turners words.

This song 505 its the only song i like from this guys, and i like it a lot... i think the guitar arrangements finely done by Kane are awesome and Turner plays his part beautifully.

Of course i want Alex and Miles to get back together for another Last Shadow Puppets record but for now:

The Rascals

I personally think Miles Kane is not the most handsome man, hes just an ordinary english young lad, but when you put him on stage with that brown gibson guitar playing those harmonic delayed chords.. hes sexy, believe me, he is.

Even if i believe he does better with his twin looking friend Alex Turner, i give some credit to his band "The Rascals" ( i know, there was a 60s band called the Rascals right?) because i like his hooks and i do think they make good indie music, it surprises you and keeps you on with new choirs and those little piano arrangements in the back of the track that give you a new feeling about the music.

I think he should go back with his mate Turner also because i do not like the Arctic Monkeys but apart from just a couple of tracks, and those happen to be the tracks they did with him.

So, lets keep it up with the new blood..

New Blood: The Virgins

Ok, so lets start this new year good with new blood... you have to check up this new band from NYC, this guys are pretty new, this guys bring a new fresh combo, this indie filled with a 90s feeling voice and the funk dance bass lines sound pretty with disco guitar delays and oouhh ouhhhs that make you dance with silly faces and that funny dance from side to side.. yeah acting completely silly, its a fun new band with good feeling.

And we girls, enjoy young man leaders in bands talking about us haha.

I had to post this short cut of my favorite song from their record because i couldnt find a decent version over youtube, so this one can be fun, the singer guy speaks, he seems young and naive but i guess hes just giving out this punky attitude. If you want you can check them out over youtube, they have great songs.

So i hope this new year comes good for you all and me.
