Best Band of the Year!

Kings Of Leon have... everything. They are handsome (all of them), they dress good which gives them style, without losing their background (yeah the redneck past that gives them credibility too), they are a family! they make us want to have that bond, and most important.. theyve got talent.

So before the years over, i have to give them the place they deserve, 1st!

Thank you guys for giving me another soundtrack for my life!

Dylan

Coming in in second (BRMCs my fave band and i saw them twice this year so they win by default), but Dylan was like the best fun ive had this year. The joy Dylan gave to me was big.

I remember we were kinda late because we stopped at some hidden spot around Bosques even thought the driver told us not to, so we could get high, we didnt expect traffic would be that crazy, we had to smoke some weed if we were going to see Dylans concert (we ended up smoking inside the venue later on too haha). So we are back in the car, stuck 1km/h, im so nervous first coz i needed to take a leak and then coz the concert was about to start, i thought we were going to miss the first couple of songs, but actually i had time for the toilet and then to drink a shot of bourbon in the name of cowboys, and we got in just right when he came out to start his show.

He was more than i expected, i always thought of Dylan like this very controversial but lonely man, not very talkative and now that hes old i thought we were going to see this weak old man trying to put up a show with more people on stage than the needed and trademark well practiced moves that would look fake and blah blah. But as my faith was right, he was just perfect, just Dylan, his band, the bands sound and a normal true set of songs that went up straight to my heart.

I did dance a lot, i was in love with him for the show, everything went flawless, perfect show.

American X

Yeah they did play American X at el Vive Latino and then at el Salon 21... which was perfect. This is a track i really like, its dark, aggressive, kinda industrial, punchy, and its long! the track goes on for about 8 mins.

The first time i got to listen to it was the first time i put on the record riding a car, i was getting pretty wasted on a beer (i usually dont drink beer) which means that i was already there. The tracks i knew already passed and then i got lost into the music and the conversation, and suddenly i realize this riff guitar that sounded pretty.. vintage, i thought then. And then after some nice up and downs with the voice, it leads to this long slow solo.. its funny because i remember i had to comment on that: "whats going on? the Doors of our era? nobodys doing that now!" haha i loved the track since the first moment.

Anyway so i have the honor to announce the winner of the best concert of 2008 award... and the winner is... pretty obvious... yea.. BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB! (since i couldnt define which concert was better, i decide to just put them together as the BRMC live act of this year (i think they played American X very nicely at el Vive Latino though).

Crimson & Clover

Over and over!

Tommy James and The Shondells had two songs, Mony Mony and Crimson & Clover. I actually didnt know Mony Mony was their song until now, but Crimson & Clover over and over got through my garden afternoons of smoking weed and singing, one of those tracks everybody can sing but nobody can remember who sings it.

I found this live version but I wanted to post the album version because i think this weird Oh Uh Oh Oh Ah Ah over the Crimson and Clover choir at the end was terrific, becoming another anthem to sunsets and friends sharing and drinking.

Elton John

I just got news that there is a ticket with my name for Elton Johns January 31st 2009 concert at el Colegio de las Vizcainas... y me creo muchisimo!

I am very exited, its gonna be a very magical moment in a small formal cocktail platform, in order to contribute with educational development here in Mexico. Just a 1500 people crowd, which makes it a deep and very personal show.

My mother used to play Elton Johns records over breakfast and i recall her being a great fan, which traduced into making me a big fan too. Slow dancing, leaning my head over my boyfriends chest while hes holding me softly but sure. i hope i can remember it all when time comes for me to wake up from that future dream.

Pulp

Pulp was probably my favorite band for years, i always thought they were very underrated... paradoxically i was very proud of being one of the few girls in my class room who knew them and knew the lyrics of their songs by heart.

Jarvis Cocker has been an idol and icon, i love his style, hes got class and a great voice, but apart from that he has the talent of being one of the best song writers ever. I always thought he had this special way of saying things, as a young lad remembering his childhood days, we could understand his lyrics as if he was this young man falling in love, calling a girlfriend, heart broken, discovering sexual intercourse, etcetera.

I wonder if Pulp will come back someday, i really would love to see them playing live.

Champagne Supernova

Oh but the concert was fun! i had a blast and i think it was mostly thanks to alcohol (i did handle to get a little bottle of brandy inside!!) and the excitement of watching the Gallagher brothers do what they do. I heard people saying "me cago la madre ese wey" "que mamon" "pinche actitud"... well yeah! thats what the Gallaghers do, and if you didnt know that you payed to get that kind of attitude, then i dont understand why you payed the ticket!

Anyway, the concert was fun i cant deny it, but the sound was so bad, even drunk i noticed it was like if they didnt do any soundcheck, i dont know if its the place or if its the amplification or i dont know, but that place should be torn down and rebuilt with better concert hall meanings.

This song reminds me of my teens, getting wet on the rain, drink wine and spill it, all over my jeans while dancing.

I wish i was at this concert:
